The SVGA BenQ Joybee GP1 Mini Projector packs a lot of features into a projector that's less and six inches square and 2.25 inches high (5.34 x 2.24 x 4.72" to be exact). It weighs only 1.4 pounds yet it projects at 100 lumens with a contrast ratio of 2000:1.

Its LED light source never needs replacing because it's expected to last the life of the projector—about 20,000 hours. It's one of the first projectors to use Luminus Devices' PT 39 PhlatLight LED chipset. The display panel that forms the picture is a Texas Instruments Digital Light Processor Digital Micromirror Device. Together they produce images that contain 120 percent of the standard NTSC color gamut (range of colors). And with wall color correction you don't even need a screen to get the right colors.

The GP1 can also show video signals in PAL and SECAM formats and 720p and 1080i high definition formats. It can accept signals from PCs and Macintosh computers. What's more, you don't even have to bring your computer with you. Just transfer pictures and movies to a USB flash drive and you can leave your laptop behind.

Speaking of no-PC presentations, you can present right from your iPod or iPhone with an optional adapter. If you need a tiny yet versatile projector the Joybee GP1 might just be the projector you need.

100 ANSI Lumens and a 2000:1 Contrast Ratio

OK, so the brightness of this mighty mite isn't measured in the thousands of lumens. But 100 lumens isn't as low as you might assume. Brightness perception is logarithmic. To keep you from scurrying to find a high school math book we'll explain that it means this projector would seem to be about half as bright as one that put out a very respectable 1000 lumens. And with a 2000:1 contrast ratio that's pretty impressive for a projector you can hold in your hand, isn't it?

LED Light Source Lasts a Lifetime

That's the projector's estimated lifetime, not your lifetime. Or to put it into numbers, about 20,000 hours. If you use the projector every hour of every business day of the year it should last about 10 solid years (but we don't recommend that duty cycle for the projector—or you for that matter).

Use the USB Port for No-Computer Multimedia Presentations

The GP1 delivers instant access to entertainment through its innovative USB interface. You can enjoy a wide variety of video, music, and picture files with no need to lug your laptop along. Simply plug in your USB flash drive, play, and bathe in the beauty of a truly cinematic experience right down to the soundtrack, courtesy of the built-in two-watt speaker. Sure, a two-watt speaker isn't going to fill a concert hall but you're not going to be using the GP1 in one anyway. And besides, the projector itself is literally whisper quiet at 28dB. (And you can always use optional external powered stereo speakers during USB presentations.)

Handles a Wide Variety of Source Material

The GP1 can project NTSC, PAL and SECAM video signals. While we wouldn't want to watch say, Ben Hur on it, it can play video from a DVD player. What it's ideal for is displaying pictures and movies from a USB flash drive. Supported formats include JPG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, AVI, VOB and MPEG-4, among others. ArcSoft MediaConverter Software is included on the GP1's CD in case you need to convert media files. Road warriors will really appreciate how you can leave your laptop back at the hotel and still tell your whole story to your audience.

A Lean and Green Machine

LED projectors use 80-90% less energy than conventional ones. The GP1, for example, sips Just 60 watts of power when it's in use and less than one watt in standby mode. So it's less harmful to the environment compared to conventional projectors. The light source is 100% halogen-free so it can run at a much lower temperature and produce less heat radiation. The LEDs are also more resilient and last much longer than HID or incandescent bulbs and are also mercury-free so they are less harmful to the environment.

Wall Color Correction

Don't worry if you don't have a projector screen handy. BenQ has studied the most commonly used paint colors and developed easy-to-use Wall Color Correction technology so that you can project almost anywhere and still get the precise color performance you need.
